The Kirishima Craft
At the foot of Mount Kirishima in Kyushu, Japan, generations of tea farmers have cultivated something extraordinary upon mineral-rich volcanic soil.
Yet today, these sacred gardens face a silent crisis. Rising costs and a lack of successors are forcing master farmers to abandon centuries-old traditions. Meanwhile, global store shelves are flooded with powders labeled "matcha"—products that often lack the rich umami, vibrant color, and meticulous care of authentic Japanese tea.
We refused to stand by as true craftsmanship gave way to mass imitation.
Our journey led us to a circle of dedicated organic farmers in Kirishima who refused to compromise, shifting entirely to sustainable practices. True Ceremonial Matcha cannot be rushed. Weeks before harvest, the tea bushes are shaded by hand. This deliberate block of sunlight slows the leaves' growth, coaxing out profound umami and a brilliant green hue. There are no shortcuts in this process.
Nourished by hand, shaded by hand, and judged by a lifetime of instinct—this relentless devotion is what defines our tea.
By enjoying each bowl, you are directly helping us preserve Kirishima’s historic tea gardens for generations to come.
